Summary: The plan makes no mention of the problem of luggage. Bike racks
are now allowed to be fitted to buses, but so far none in Waikato have them. The
page 61 statement that "A52 Council will investigate the feasibility of bikes on
buses in the Waikato region." is inadequate. the Ministry has already spent an
excessive time investigating.
The plan should commit to buses attractive to use. The low floors and high
windows of the new Scanias mean that only tall passengers get a view from
almost half the seats.

Summary: I’d like to see all Hamilton East buses modern type, not old fashioned
with narrow access for pushchairs and bells that don’t work.

Council will need to investigate the appropriateness of bikes on buses specifically
for the Waikato region. Factors to consider are cost of a trial, most appropriate
place in the region to carry out a trial, assessment of demand, the insurance
liabilities involved and infrastructure requirement, particularly for the transport
centre.
NZTA has recently released ‘Requirement for Urban Buses’ which specifies the
standard for urban bus quality. All regional councils are required to adhere to
these standards.

Council is working towards ensuring that we have a fully accessible fleet of super
low floor buses. However fleet changes to current older buses can only occur
when the present contracts expire and the new contracts come into effect in
2014.
It also needs to be noted that the NZ Transport Agency has recently released

quality. All regional councils are required to adhere to these standards.
