Submission summary
Private Hospitals, making the service even more beneficial to people living on
this new route. I would estimate that only two extra vehicles would be required
on top of the four you have at present allocated for these local services. If
smaller more economical vehicles were used this service, even more economies
could be shown.
Submitter: 39 Living Streets Aotearoa, Hamilton
Matter: PTP11-39.1
Summary: There is an urgent need to provide better public transport services
between Hamilton and other Waikato towns such as Ngaruawahia, Cambridge,
Te Awamutu, and Raglan. This is to allow regular commuting by workers and
schoolchildren who need to travel to and from Hamilton on a daily basis, and also
to deal with the needs of residents of these towns who need to access vital
services such as hospital clinics. As we have regularly mentioned in previous
years, the present services are inadequate in all cases and non-existent in some.
Knowing that the last bus for outlying towns leaves Hamilton at somewhere
between 4.20 and 5.40pm means that most workers cannot use the service – if
they are even slightly held up at work, they will be sleeping in the office! By
providing more frequent services and/or altered operating hours, it might be
possible to considerably reduce the number of cars on Waikato roads, and all the
attendant problems that they cause, as will be discussed later.
Comments noted.
The WRPTP recognises the need to improve access to satellite towns in order to
provide better connectivity to essential services like education and work places.
Policy P9 and Actions A11 and A13 in the plan are aimed to monitor demand for
services and provide services such that they meet the needs of the community.
However, this needs to be balanced with affordability considerations for the
communities and also the available funding.
The WRPTP also notes the challenge of constrained funding and competing
demands and the clear indication from NZTA as to capped funding at current
levels. Given this, providing additional services will need to be prioritised on the
basis of greatest need at least in the short term.
Council will continue to work with Waipa and Waikato District Councils to provide
services as appropriate.
Submitter: 56 Future Proof Implementation Committee
Matter: PTP11-56.19
Summary: Future Proof would like to see the potential for increased public
transport services for commuters between Cambridge and Hamilton signalled in
this section. While it is understood that it may not be possible to fund an
increased level of service straight away this still needs to be considered and if
funds do become available then services should be increased. This will be an
important part of achieving the 25% reduction in local trips on the Waikato
Expressway.
