• Furthering the interests of the district and region;
• Providing grants for the benefit of rural New Zealand;
• Protecting and preserving New Zealand's agricultural heritage;
• Operating a learning centre for the nation's agricultural schools; and
• Investing back into and enabling events and improvements at Mystery
Creek Events Centre.
Comments noted.
Thank you for the information on NZNFS and MCEC.
No change required.
The knock-on social, cultural and economic benefits that result from our activities
transcend District boundaries. NZNFS does not provide a Waipa District or
Hamilton City service; it provides a 'nation-wide service'. For many, NZNFS is not
only perceived as providing a community service, but an essential Regional
service.
The New Zealand National Fieldays is the largest annual event in New Zealand
and sits within the top six farm shows in the world. It contributes significantly
more to the national economy than any other single annual event in New
Zealand. Twice within the previous 5 years, the knock-on economic benefits of
Fieldays have been evaluated (by the University of Waikato) as exceeding $800
million and $600million respectively. Additionally, Mystery Creek Events Centre
also hosts (or has consent for) a number of other major national and international
events ranging from World Rally Championships to major music festivals, each of
which contributes towards regional economic wellbeing.
The MCEC is the only venue in the North Island with the capacity to host events
such as National Fieldays The scale of activities hosted at Mystery Creek means
that the MCEC has one of the highest levels of attendance of any events venue
