The overall mission of the Division of Nursing is to strive for excellence in the preparation of technical nurses and professional nurse generalists. This mission is accomplished through the following goals: 1. The preparation of graduates to provide nursing care for individuals, families, and families in communities in structured settings; 2. The preparation of graduates to provide nursing care for individuals, families, and communities within a variety of health care settings; 3. The encouragement of critical thinking to guide nursing interventions which promote, maintain, and restore health; and 4. The development of accountability through a commitment to professional nursing practice and lifelong learning. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Degree The Division of Nursing offers a four-year curriculum of study leading to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Degree. BSN Admission Requirements Upon completion of the lower-division general education and nursing support courses, students are eligible to apply for admission to upper-division nursing. Applications must be submitted to the Division of Nursing by April 1 for admission to the Fall semester. All applicants are required to: 1. meet all University requirements; 2. have a minimum GPA of 2.50 in the lower-division general education and nursing support courses; 3. have a grade of “C” or better in all general education and nursing support courses; 4. complete NURS 2003 Introduction to Nursing Concepts and Roles with a grade of “C” or better; and 5. submit an application for admission to upper-division nursing with an attached handwritten one-page statement expressing reason(s) for seeking a baccalaureate degree in nursing and outlining career goals(s). Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (AASN) Degree The Division of Nursing offers an LPN- RN Transition Program leading to the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (AASN) Degree.
