72 Arkansas-Monticello Arts and Humanities Spanish Study Abroad Program 3 - 6 Credit Hours Prerequisite: SPAN 1003 or consent of the Director of Study Abroad Program. Students may earn up to six semester credit hours (two courses) per summer session in a Spanish-speaking country. Students will register and pay fees at UAM for one or two courses selected from the Spanish courses listed in the catalog. The program requires daily attendance and participation from Monday through Friday, a minimum of three cultural field trips as designated by UAM’s director of the program and the institution of higher learning abroad, daily journal entries written in Spanish, a midterm examination, and a final examination graded by the Director of Study Abroad Program from the University of Arkansas- Monticello. The evaluation of the student’s grade is decided by the professors teaching the students and the UAM Director of Study Abroad. Grades are based on daily participation and performance, oral proficiency, journals, and two examinations. Students live with a family of the host country and are required to speak Spanish at all times. Objectives of the Study Abroad Program: To develop oral proficiency in Spanish through a total immersion program. To develop an awareness and understanding of the culture of the host country through family life, field trips, cultural activities, and daily life in the host country.
