Description of the Course<br />
This seminar aims to give the student a state-of-the-art overview of theories,<br />
classification issues, <strong>and</strong> treatment models of personality disorders, with an emphasis<br />
on current scientific debate on these issues.<br />
Topics<br />
• Personality theories relating to personality disorders<br />
• Biological models of personality disorders (including genetic <strong>and</strong> neurotransmitter<br />
models)<br />
• Psychological models of personality disorders (modern psychodynamic, conditioning,<br />
cognitive, interpersonal, integrative models)<br />
• Sociological perspectives on personality disorders<br />
• Classifications issues (DSM-IV diagnosis; axis-1 vs. axis-2; categorical vs. dimensional<br />
models; polythetic definition; diagnostical techniques)<br />
• Etiological issues<br />
• Epidemiological issues<br />
• Treatment options<br />
