Description of the Course<br />

The aim of this training is to teach students basic clinical interview skills needed for<br />

interviewing patients with psychopathology. After this training, students should be<br />

able to administer semi-structured interviews covering the reason for referral, chief<br />

complaint <strong>and</strong> history of the presented problem(s), mental status, developmental <strong>and</strong><br />

social assessment, diagnoses, <strong>and</strong> type of treatment requested.<br />

Instructional Approach<br />

This course consists of seven 2-hour sessions. The first meeting is an introductory<br />

lecture. The second meeting will be an SPC (Simulated Patient Contact), during<br />

which the entrance level of each student will be assessed. The other meetings are<br />

structured as training meetings; as preparation, students study literature <strong>and</strong> dvd’s. The<br />

assessment skills are practiced by means of role-playing. The last meeting will again be<br />

an SPC. Students complete an assessment <strong>and</strong> a reflection report for each SPC.<br />

Form of Assessment<br />

Adequate demonstration of interviewing skills, adequate completion of patient<br />

assessment reports <strong>and</strong> reflection reports.<br />

Description of the Course<br />

The aim of this training is to teach students procedures for psychodiagnostic<br />

<strong>and</strong> neuropsychological testing needed for assessing type, severity <strong>and</strong> extent of<br />

psychopathology <strong>and</strong> neuropsychological problems in individuals with psychiatric<br />

disorders. Students will learn to administer a psychodiagnostic interview in<br />

adult clients with psychiatric diagnoses as well as in caregivers of children with<br />

developmental problems. Also, they will extend their experience in neuropsychological<br />

test administration <strong>and</strong> observation. They will acquire skills in writing a formal report<br />

<strong>and</strong> in communicating their conclusions to the patient.<br />

Following an introduction in the main cognitive domains in relation to brain areas<br />

<strong>and</strong> relevant neuropsychological <strong>and</strong> psychopathological test procedures, the training<br />

will focus on five disorders: developmental disorders (including disorders of executive<br />

functioning <strong>and</strong> disorders of learning <strong>and</strong> attention), schizophrenia, bipolar disorder,
