multidisciplinary nature of psychopharmacology encompasses pharmacology,<br />
molecular biology, genetics, physiological psychology, experimental, clinical <strong>and</strong><br />
cognitive neuropsychology <strong>and</strong> biological psychiatry. The emphasis will be on<br />
underst<strong>and</strong>ing drug development, drug action, drug research, animal <strong>and</strong> human<br />
pharmacological models of clinical disorders, experimental / clinical trial design <strong>and</strong><br />
the development of biomarkers, real measures <strong>and</strong> surrogate measures of drug efficacy.<br />

The course will focus on major areas in Psychopharmacology such as Addiction,<br />
Depression, Anxiety, Psychosis <strong>and</strong> Cognition. These areas will be illuminated form<br />
both the perspectives of basic neuroscience including animal subjects as well as<br />
experimental <strong>and</strong> clinical human psychopharmacology.<br />
Instructional Approach<br />
Each half-day the programme will consist of a sequence of three elements:<br />
• Key note Lectures by Internationally renowned speakers in the morning<br />
• Presentations of recent research by PhD students or junior researchers<br />
• Forum report by students about the poster-presentations<br />
The workshop offers plenty of opportunity for the Master’s student to interact with<br />
PhD students, junior <strong>and</strong> senior staff <strong>and</strong> the invited guest speakers.<br />

Description of the Course<br />
The workshop introduces the student to key concepts in current research in sexology,<br />
with an emphasis on the cognitive <strong>and</strong> behavioural mechanisms that play a role in the<br />
etiology <strong>and</strong> maintenance of sexual dysfunction.<br />
Topics are:<br />
• The biopsychosocial model of sexual functioning, including the subjective,<br />
physiological, <strong>and</strong> relational dimensions of sexual functioning<br />
• Gender differences in sexual functioning<br />
• The role of cognitive errors in attribution <strong>and</strong> expectancy<br />
• The role of attention <strong>and</strong> affect<br />
• An overview of sexual disorders<br />
• Cognitive-behavioural treatments of sexual disorders<br />
