The specialization in Cognitive <strong>Neuroscience</strong> provides students with an extensive <strong>and</strong><br />

in-depth theoretical background on all the hot topics of neuroimaging <strong>and</strong> brain research.<br />

The conceptual range includes core courses on perception <strong>and</strong> attention, as well as on<br />

somatosensory <strong>and</strong> motor processes. Additional topics include higher cognitive functions<br />

such as language comprehension <strong>and</strong> production, self-monitoring, <strong>and</strong> mental imagery.<br />

The Cognitive <strong>Neuroscience</strong> group is known for combining content <strong>and</strong> methodology<br />

to improve answers obtained <strong>and</strong> questions asked in current <strong>and</strong> future neuroscientific<br />

research. Students are provided with the unique opportunity to be trained in all essential<br />

research methods of Cognitive <strong>Neuroscience</strong>. <strong>Maastricht</strong> University has its own 3-Tesla<br />

MRI research scanner <strong>and</strong> hosts fully equipped EEG as well as TMS laboratories. Students<br />

thus gain a thorough underst<strong>and</strong>ing of the theoretical background of these most<br />

advanced techniques for imaging, recording <strong>and</strong> manipulating neuronal activation in the<br />

human brain. In addition, they acquire h<strong>and</strong>s-on experience in how to operate <strong>and</strong> use<br />

these techniques in the context of empirical neuroscience.<br />
