Chapter 6 - Education <strong>and</strong> Examination Regulations<br />
study load of the Research Master’s study programme amounts to 120 European<br />
credits.<br />
k. Board of Examiners: the committee as meant by article 7.12 of the law.<br />
l. Examiner: the person, appointed by the Board of Examiners, who is responsible for<br />
assessing student performance.<br />
m. Course Coordinator: an examiner who is responsible for the content of a certain<br />
course, workshop, colloquium, skills training, or other part of the study programme.<br />
n. Board of Appeal: the Board of Appeal for Examinations as meant by article 7.60 of the<br />
law.<br />
o. Rules <strong>and</strong> Regulations: the rules drawn up by the Board of Examiners to ensure a<br />
smooth running of the assessments, <strong>and</strong> the regulations governing the way in which<br />
the examinee is assessed <strong>and</strong> how the results of the assessments are arrived at as<br />
meant by article 7.12, paragraph 4 of the law.<br />
p. Faculty Board: the Executive Board of the Faculty of <strong>Psychology</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Neuroscience</strong> of<br />
<strong>Maastricht</strong> University as meant by article 9.24 of the law.<br />

Other terms are to be understood in accordance with the meaning assigned to them by<br />
the law.<br />
Article 1.3 Purpose of the Study Programme<br />
1. The Research Master’s programme Cognitive <strong>Neuroscience</strong>, Neuropsychology,<br />
Psychopathology is a two-year programme designed for students who want to<br />
continue their studies at a graduate school that prepares them for a career in the field<br />
of research. Therefore, the purpose of the study programme is the following:<br />
• academic formation within the context of the <strong>Maastricht</strong> University educational<br />
concept <strong>and</strong> its distinct profile;<br />
• provide students with a stimulating scientific environment that will enable them<br />
to develop as independent thinkers with a broad curiosity in the various aspects<br />
of the multidisciplinary research domain;<br />
• possibility to broaden one’s knowledge in other disciplines;<br />
• acquisition of specialized knowledge, skills, <strong>and</strong> insight in one of the<br />
four specializations, namely, Cognitive <strong>Neuroscience</strong>, Neuropsychology,<br />
Psychopathology;<br />
• preparation for a PhD trajectory or a research career in a non-academic setting.<br />
2. There are sufficient elements in the study programme to enhance the further<br />
development of the academic formation of the student, in particular with regard to:<br />
• thinking <strong>and</strong> acting independently <strong>and</strong> scientifically;<br />
• communicating scientifically in English;<br />
• applying specialized scientific knowledge in a broader context.<br />
Article 1.4 Organization of the Study Programme<br />
The study programme will be offered on a full-time basis.
