Description of the Course<br />

The aim of this course is to guide the participants through the first key steps of<br />

neuroscience experiments related to movement <strong>and</strong> psychiatric disorders. The<br />

participants will receive relevant knowledge via lectures <strong>and</strong> will have the opportunity<br />

to apply this in practice via a h<strong>and</strong>s-on setup. General neurosurgical techniques will<br />

be shown that are used to selectively lesion brain areas, to chronically infuse drugs to<br />

brain areas, to deep brain stimulate <strong>and</strong> electrophysiologically record from brain areas.<br />

Also, behavioural tests used to study the functional consequences of the neurosurgical<br />

interventions will be demonstrated <strong>and</strong> discussed.<br />

Description of the Course<br />

Students will learn to think critically about ethical dilemmas that psychologists<br />

encounter when exercising their profession. This workshop will discuss legal <strong>and</strong> ethical<br />

conflicts that are involved in psychological research <strong>and</strong> clinical practice. Students will<br />

be introduced to the ethical <strong>and</strong> legal rules <strong>and</strong> boundaries in human research, <strong>and</strong> to<br />

the organizations <strong>and</strong> institutes supervising the application of these rules.<br />

Psychologists always need to make sure that they carry out their work in an ethical<br />

<strong>and</strong> legally sound way. However, there is often a conflict of interests of the involved
