<strong>MISSING</strong> <strong>PIECES</strong><br />

countries, as stressed in the evaluation of Tanzania’s NAP by the European<br />

<strong>Union</strong> in 2006, five years after its implementation. Specifically they emphasised<br />

the need for effective operational contacts, liaison mechanisms and<br />

cooperation between adjacent regions. Parliamentarians can help promote<br />

and reinforce regional cooperation through their networks and parliamentary<br />

workshops.<br />

Saferworld and SaferAfrica have been heavily involved in the mapping and<br />

development of National Action Plans in several African states, and have<br />

published a report entitled Resolving Small Arms Proliferation: The Development<br />

and Implementation of National Action Plans on Arms Management<br />

The report outlines the key principles of the mapping approach, details<br />

the methodology and presents some of the practical experiences gained.<br />
