Professional Gaps in the Labour Market
There are also career gaps in some key professions which will
have a significant impact on the economy; medical workers,
hospitality and tourism workers, special needs specialists for
health and education, speech therapists, psychologist just to
name a few.
The Demand for persons with Disability
Regarding the matter of persons with disabilities, the Survey
reported that some 21 per cent of employers that at least one
person with disability was employed to their organization and
49 per cent of employers reported that they were not averse to
employing persons with disabilities.
Hence, I would like to express my gratitude to those employers
for their support in providing employment for these special
persons and encourage other employers to get on board and
create employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.
Career Counselling Training Session
The Ministry is cognizant of the importance of proper career
guidance for students and so we have just completed a
training session with Guidance Counsellors across the regions
with a view to educating them about. The findings of the
Survey and thereby assist youths to make better career choices
for the future.
In closing, I have shared all of this empirical data with this
receptive audience, with the hope that we will all join as
