⇒ It is this tacit knowledge that is the major driver of
innovation among “E”MSMEs
⇒ We therefore argue that it is the innovative capacity
and competence to transform tacit knowledge into
commercially viable goods and services that is central
to “E”MSMEs driving the development of domestic
capital and, in turn, expanding & transforming the
economy.
⇒ This is taking place in the creative, cultural industries
and the copyright sector
Constraints to Development
James (2008), however, highlights two constraints limiting the
development of domestic capital:
1. Lack of resources in the hands of “E” MSMEs who wish to
innovate while creating capital (abundant labour with
tacit knowledge) while those with resources are not
innovating

⇒ Need access to financing and other resources
