Chinese Brush Painting Workshop
with Stella Dobbins
STELLA DOBBINS, (MA, University of Houston) is
an artist and art historian who exhibits her work
nation-wide. She is also a signature member of
the National Watercolor Society.
Chinese Brush Painting – Focus
on Flowers
(Middle School-Adult) Enjoy a day of learning Chinese
Brush Painting techniques: contour, spontaneous, dry
brush, and we-in-wet styles. The following subjects
will be demonstrated by Ms. Dobbins: waterfall with
bridge, spider mums with butterflies, yellow bird with
tree, ducks with bamboo, and minnows with lily pads.
There will be class discussion after each subject
taught. A supply kit may be purchased from instructor
at class for $25. There will be one half-hour lunch
break- provide your own lunch

(HS – Adult) Render images by employing various
observational, compositional, and color techniques
working from still-life or outside on-site, then learn
how to translate your own photographic image into
a work of fine art! Select the painting media of your
choice (watercolor, gouache, acrylic, traditional or
water-based oils) to produce two unique paintings
with individualized instruction tailored to your media
preference, skill level, and subject. Beginners and

(Ages 9 & Up) Bet you never thought you could create
a totally unique piece of art with a sopping wet piece
of paper! Working with local artist Norm Knott, you
will start by drawing a composition with ink onto
a wet piece of paper and watch as the ink flows
into an organic shape. Get more detailed by using
watercolors, ink, and collage to fill in your drawing
and make it your own. The ambitious might even
complete more than one piece.
