Each weekly unit will feature a different work of fiction, non –fiction, poetry, or film for discussion and written response. Students will be encouraged to record their thoughts and feelings about the readings in weekly journal entries—at least one journal entry will be shared with the whole class. Psychological First Aid This course is an evidence-informed intervention for assisting children, adults, and families in the early aftermath of disaster and terrorism. It is designed to reduce the initial distress caused by disasters and to foster short and long term adaptive functioning. Participants will actively learn and practice skills needed for effective delivery of PFA. PFA is intended not only for the mental health professional, but also for a wide range of disaster response workers who provide early assistance to survivors.
