Mr. Alonso is a licensed architect with 31 years of experience including senior management positions with South Florida<br />

Water Management District (SFWMD) and School Board of Broward County (SBBC). His background includes planning,<br />

design, and construction of capital projects for public clients as well as commercial and office development projects for the<br />

private sector. Formerly the Director of Service Centers for SFWMD, Mr. Alonso oversaw nine service divisions serving 16<br />

counties, a staff of more than 120, and more than 270 local and cooperative projects. Before joining SBBC in 1987, where<br />

he managed the planning, design, and construction of capital projects, he was a founder and vice president of an<br />

architectural firm specializing in commercial and office development projects. At <strong>Atkins</strong>, Mr. Alonso is responsible for<br />

leading the firm’s business development, client service, public involvement, and advocacy activities in south Florida. He is<br />

responsible for making sure the firm’s client commitments are met including multiservice staffing assignments and<br />

coordination as well as developing and maintaining public and private client relationships. He serves as principal-in-charge<br />

for large, strategic client contracts to ensure service delivery and client satisfaction. He also leads the firm’s strategic<br />

planning and market activities in the region, and develops and implements the firm’s community involvement strategy and<br />

activities including The <strong>Atkins</strong> Foundation’s community support activities. Certifications: American Institute of Architects<br />

Director of Service Centers. Led SFWMD’s nine service centers (divisions) upon the creation of the Service Center<br />

Department. The principal objective of the service centers is to develop and implement a consistent and decentralized<br />

service organization that supports execution of SFWMD’s strategic plan. The nine locations include Orlando,<br />

Okeechobee, Stuart, West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Islamorada, Naples, and Fort Myers. The centers include<br />

more than 120 employees and serve 16 counties with a diverse population of more than 6 million. The annual budget is<br />

greater than $48 million (discretionary and restricted). Mr. Alonso managed more than 270 local and cooperative<br />

projects with a total contract value greater than $180 million. SFWMD is a regional agency of the State of Florida and is<br />

charged with managing and protecting water resources by balancing and improving water quality, flood control,<br />

natural systems, and water supply. SFWMD’s boundaries extend from central Florida to Lake Okeechobee, and from<br />

Fort Myers to Fort Pierce, south through the Everglades to the Florida Keys and Florida Bay.<br />
