BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AND RELEVANCE TO THIS CONTRACT (Include scope, size, and cost) Project summary Size: 569,016 sf Project Cost: $6B Key project elements • Architectural design • Landscape architecture • Civil engineering • MEP engineering • Structural engineering 1,351 to 1,893; 344 miles of facilities (constructed before 1988) have now been modernized; and six new expansion projects have been opened (with a seventh expansion project currently under design) -- all the while modernizing the entire system and improving safety, access, and capacity to the motoring public. As general consultant, Atkins functions as an extension of FTE’s resources by providing qualified technical and professional personnel for program/project management; architecture design; toll operations; bonds, asset management, and operations support; planning support/conceptual studies; environmental management; plans review/project engineering support; right-of-way services management; surveying and mapping; utilities/railroad relocation; construction engineering management; maintenance management; and other as-requested services. Atkins has provided architecture-related services for the following Turnpike service plazas: • Turkey Lake District Headquarters Building, Operations Building, Maintenance Building, Law Enforcement Building, and Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) Office, Ocoee, FL. Atkins served as the owner’s representative responsible for architectural programming, concept planning, funding and appropriations coordination, preparing design criteria, technical support for selection of the design/build firm, contract administration, bidding and selection, and construction oversight. We were also responsible for the interior design package, as well as developing procurement specifications for the entire facility, which comprised offices, lounges, conference rooms and auditoriums, training rooms, gun vaults, and secure facilities. Total: 150,000 sf. • West Palm Beach Law Enforcement Buildings, Dispatch Center, and Support Facilities for the FHP and Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) FHP -- Troop L, West Palm Beach, FL. Atkins prepared a concept report, developed preliminary plans, and prepared a request for proposal (RFP) and design criteria package for the design and construction of the facility by means of a design/build contract. Total: 50,000 sf. • Pompano Operations Center, Broward County, FL. This project included the conversion of an abandoned service station at the Pompano Plaza to the site for a Florida’s Turnpike Operations Center. Extensive site remediation (consisting of contaminated soil removal and asbestos removal) was required at the service station. The proposed Pompano Operations Center was designed as a two-story building, with associated sitework consisting of parking area and on/off plaza ramps. Separate estimates and construction schedules were prepared for the site remediation, the building, and the sitework. The work was divided into three separate contracts. The remediation cost estimates were prepared by coordination with the environmental engineering team, the testing laboratories, and potential contractors. Total: 38,000 sf. • Boca Raton Data (NERVE) Center Office Building, Boca Raton, FL. This project consisted of interior design work, programming, furniture specifications, open plan system, and space planning for an 18,500-sf office building. Project tasks included coordination of the project between the Turnpike and the design/build team including contractor, and architects/engineers. 25. POC TELEPHONE NUMBER 305.673.7000 This project for the City of Miami Beach involved the total renovation of an open-air park pavilion to an enclosed, conditioned space. The building now serves a variety of functions, including an afterschool care program, summer programs and day camps, and community events such as movie-in-the-park functions and picnics. The park is open daily to the neighboring community. The pavilion was developed using building information modeling (BIM), which enabled the client to have a clear picture of the construction process. Atkins was able to illustrate each phase of construction—from demolition to final completion—in an expedited manner. When renovations were completed, the pavilion provided the necessary audiovisual systems to support recreation and cultural activities for children, teens, and adults. 25.
