Executive summary An introduction to the Atkins team Atkins North America, Inc., was founded in Miami in 1960 to provide civil engineering and master planning services for Miami Lakes, one of Florida’s original master planned communities and one of the New Urbanism movement’s early shining stars. Since that time, our south Florida offerings have expanded to include a variety of disciplines. Established more than 50 years ago, Atkins has 2,800 employees and 70 offices nationwide, of which more than 200 staff are located in south Florida. Our clients represent a mix of both the public and private sectors and include counties and municipalities; state departments of transportation; land developers; airports; power utilities; toll road agencies; contractors; and other regional, state, and federal agencies. We aim to be a singlesource solution for clients through the provision of worldclass technology and personal service on all of our projects, large or small. City of North Miami Beach experience Atkins has almost 30 years of experience successfully working with the City of North Miami Beach. We are a registered vendor with the City and are currently completing task orders to carry out work on Mishcon Park. As demonstrated in our recent work for the City, Atkins is adept in obtaining grants and managing grant-funded projects to ensure compliance, as well as in expediting permitting with local, state, and federal entities. Three of our team members - Kristin Caborn, CPRE, FCP; Harry Belton, RLA; and Victor Herrera, PE - are currently working with the City on the completion of Mishcon Park. Their previous and current experience working with the City and its staff gives the team a better understanding of how to meet the City’s needs. Atkins is one of Florida’s leading public works, parks, utilities, and buildings designers for public entities. Our south Florida experience includes extensive work in Miami-Dade County and various municipalities and clients including the Cities of Miami, Miami Beach, Miami Springs, North Miami, and Doral; Miami- Dade County Public Schools, Miami Dade College, and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). We also assisted these organizations with planning and implementing CIPs and understanding each organization’s budget and financial restraints. In-house architecture services Atkins offers comprehensive in-house architecture, interior design, and related engineering services to the public and private sectors for commercial, educational, transportation, military, and other governmental structures. The design ability, technical expertise, and commitment of the architecture group enable Atkins to serve clients effectively. Atkins’ architectural team is dedicated to achieving “design excellence” by integrating the “art” of architecture with a project’s functional components. This is achieved by encouraging client participation throughout the project, from conceptual design and programming to computer scheduling, budgeting, and construction administration. Interior design team members specialize in corporate space planning and design, programming, contract documentation, and contract administration. Their objective is to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing work environment for clients and their employees. Recognizing the ever-changing office environment, Atkins staff members provide each client with a spectrum of design solutions that offer flexibility for future growth. Our mechanical and electrical engineers develop creative, efficient, and cost-effective systems to meet the technological and functional needs of clients through several different methods, including computerized engineering programs and energy analyses. To ensure that systems are implemented properly, Atkins engineering staff also provides thorough construction management services. Our engineers focus on generating energy efficient, sustainable designs, to minimize costs and create long-lasting facilities for clients. Our structural engineers have experience in all types of building materials, loads, and building codes. From progressive collapseresistant multi-storied buildings to delicate aluminum canopies, we offer design expertise for all load combinations. Additionally, our LEED-accredited professionals make environmentally sensitive choices and can assist with sustainable (green) projects. Atkins’ architecture group offers clients the personal service and attention of a small firm, yet is supported by Atkins’ national network of regional offices, thus providing the in-depth resources of a large firm.
