A freak storm, which appeared to be a<br />
miniature tornado, damaged one of the<br />
screen towers at the new Surf Drive-In<br />
Theatre, now under way near Lake Charles.<br />
The storm occurred Friday afternoon i5).<br />
The tower had been completely sheathed<br />
when the storm struck and tore away the<br />
lower two-third.s of the facing. The new 1,000-<br />
car Surf is being built by Percy Duplessls,<br />
Matt Guldry & Associates. It will utilize<br />
Monograph equipment throughout furni.hed<br />
by Hodges Theatre Supply. It Ls slated to<br />
open sometime in February. Duplessls, Guldry<br />
and their associates are keeping preti<br />
busy these days. In addition to the Su<br />
they have started construction on the Fro<br />
tier, a new 500-car situation at Sulphur<br />
Ground work has been started and the screen<br />
tower is nearing completion.<br />

here with a promotion keyed to National<br />
Guard week activities.<br />
The band and a battalion of the 122nd<br />
Georgia infantry paraded from the state<br />
capital to the theatre through the city to<br />
the accompaniment of cheers from thousands<br />
of spectators. The band played in front of<br />
the theatre. A 15-mlllion candlepower searchlight<br />
threw beams into the sky visible for a<br />
distance of 15 miles.<br />
A 55mm antiaircraft gun and Jeep was the<br />
focal point of the patriotically decorated<br />
front, while in the lobby a cutaway model of<br />
an F-80 jet engine, supplied by the Guard<br />
Omaha Film Depot Handles<br />
Shipments of TB Film<br />
OMAHA—Under a new policy, the Omaha<br />
Film Depot will handle TV film shipments<br />
from New York for delivery to television stations<br />
WOW-TV and KMTV here. First deliveries<br />
of that nature were received here last<br />
week.<br />
Frank Gartner, head of the Him Depot, said<br />
Chester M. Ross, executive vice-president of<br />
National Film Service, said the films would<br />
come by plane nonstop from New York, leaving<br />
there at 5 p. m. and arriving in Omaha<br />
at 10:20 p. m.<br />

GREENSBORO, N. C. — Joan McKellen.<br />
.starlet, was here to promote MGM's "Million<br />
Dollar Mermaid." One of the mermaids<br />
in the film, she was taken on a whirlwind<br />
tour of the city, and was Interviewed on<br />
an early morning radio program. She had<br />
to retire to her hotel room to nurse a sore<br />
throat, but while relaxing, she held her<br />
press interviews and later made moro radio<br />
appearances. She was a guest at the local<br />
Jaycee luncheon and made two stage appearances<br />
at the local theatres.<br />

of the Georgia National Guard.<br />
Assisting General Vandlver in arranging the<br />
affair were Lieutenant Colonial Flynn and<br />
Capt. Douglas Embry.<br />
