Career of Adam Goelz<br />
.U^RON—Adam Goelz. native of Akron who<br />
has done most of his theatre work in the<br />
east, recently returned as manager of the<br />
1,800-seat State, which opened two years ago.<br />
He was recently interviewed by Art Cullison<br />
for the Akron Beacon-Journal.<br />
He has won showmanship awards from<br />
BOXOFFICE magazine, Columbia and 20th<br />
Century-Fox. He is 30 years old, has two sons<br />
in grade school, and a 3-year-old daughter.<br />
Goelz started his theatre career at the local<br />
Palace in 1939, after graduating from Aki-on<br />
Garfield high school, and soon became assistant<br />
manager under the late Sid Holland.<br />
He left in 1941 for the marines, serving with<br />
the famous Third division on Bougainville<br />
and Guam. Discharged in 1945, he returned<br />
to the Palace for a year, then to Charlotte,<br />
N. C, as a full-fledged manager.<br />
He attended a training school for the Century<br />
Theatres in New York City and was<br />
assigned to the first run Hippodrome in<br />
Baltimore, while also handling the bookings<br />
for the Town and Little theatres. He won J<br />
most of his showmanship honors in Baltimore,<br />
where he also wrote original radiol<br />
scripts and produced a radio program.<br />
The State, which cost $400,000, is operated];<br />
by the Washington circuit, and boasts a<br />
television room where patrons can watch TV.ii<br />
Fourteen parish theatres in Austria showing]'<br />
16mm films are housed in buildings adapted!<br />
for such exhibition, such as parish houses]<br />
and inns.<br />
