Career of Adam Goelz
.U^RON—Adam Goelz. native of Akron who
has done most of his theatre work in the
east, recently returned as manager of the
1,800-seat State, which opened two years ago.
He was recently interviewed by Art Cullison
for the Akron Beacon-Journal.
He has won showmanship awards from
BOXOFFICE magazine, Columbia and 20th
Century-Fox. He is 30 years old, has two sons
in grade school, and a 3-year-old daughter.
Goelz started his theatre career at the local
Palace in 1939, after graduating from Aki-on
Garfield high school, and soon became assistant
manager under the late Sid Holland.
He left in 1941 for the marines, serving with
the famous Third division on Bougainville
and Guam. Discharged in 1945, he returned
to the Palace for a year, then to Charlotte,
N. C, as a full-fledged manager.
He attended a training school for the Century
Theatres in New York City and was
assigned to the first run Hippodrome in
Baltimore, while also handling the bookings
for the Town and Little theatres. He won J
most of his showmanship honors in Baltimore,
where he also wrote original radiol
scripts and produced a radio program.
The State, which cost $400,000, is operated];
by the Washington circuit, and boasts a
television room where patrons can watch TV.ii
