THE STORY: "Meet Me at the Fair" (U-I)<br />

Escaping from an orphans' home in 1904, 13-yeaT-old Chef<br />

Allen is picked up by Dan Dailey. operator oi a one-man<br />

medicine show, who hides him from Diana Lynn, a welfare<br />

worker Diana reports the runaway to her fiance, Hugn<br />

O'Brian, the district attorney, who is running for re-elechori<br />

backed by Rhys WilUams, a crook who has stolen part of<br />

the money appropriated to rebuild the detention hoine.<br />

Dailey takes Chet to Carole Mathews, who operates a girlygirly<br />

show, and she agrees to hide the lad. Diana and<br />

Dailey meet again and again, and romance would blossom<br />

were it not for the fact that she suspects Dan of hiding the<br />

boy O'Brian obtains custody of Chet through a ruse, but<br />

when Williams' swindling activities are exposed, Diana<br />

joins with Dan in ridding the country of crooks.<br />

THE STORY:<br />

"Babes in Bagdad" (UA)<br />

Hassan, the kadi of Bagdad, ignores 11 inmates of his<br />

harem for one, Zohara. Sharkhan, villainous tax collector<br />

and trafficker in women, gives him Kyra, a rebellious girl, to<br />

replace Zohara in his affections. Kyra gets the kadi's wives<br />

to 'revolt to the point of complaining to the caliph. Ezar,<br />

the caliph's dashing godson, investigates and discovers that<br />

Sharkhan is withholding tax revenues and holding up caravans<br />

Ezar and Kyra meet secretly and fall in love, and<br />

Ezar frustrates the kadi's plans for a wedding night. Sharkhan<br />

makes several attempts on Ezar's life, but is brought to<br />

justice. Through the scheming of the women, the caliph<br />

forces the kadi to limit his affections to Zohara, and Kyra<br />

and Ezar marry. Harems are'trlT-lished by government edict.<br />

THE STORY: "Stop, You're Killing Me" (WB)<br />

The end of prohibition in 1933 spells gloom for Broderick<br />

Crawford, bootleg beer baron, and his wife, Claire Trevor.<br />

His bankroll disappears, but he is forced to pose as a<br />

respectable, successful businessman to impress the family<br />

of Bill Hayes, a playboy loved by Crawford's daughter,<br />

Virginia Gibson. They arrive in Saratoga just as a bookmaker<br />

is robbed of half a million dollars, and the holdup<br />

gang takes refuge in the Crawford household. Four of them<br />

are rubbed out by the fifth bandit, and an orphan waif<br />

picked up by Crawford hides the loot. There is a mad.<br />

scramble to dispose of the iDodies, and several run-ins with<br />

the law, but eventually the way is cleared for Bill and<br />

Virginia to marry, and Crawford appears destined to go<br />

straight.<br />

THE STORY:<br />

"Hiawatha" (AA)<br />

The peaceful Ojibways fear the neighboring Illinois and<br />

Dacotah tribes may war against them. Two scouting parties<br />

are sent out. Hiawatha (Vincent Edwards) goes to the land<br />

of the Dacotahs and falls in love with Minnehaha (Yvette<br />

Dugay). Learning that the Dacotahs do not plan war, he<br />

departs, pledging to return to marry Minnehaha. Meantime<br />

Pau Puk Keewis (Keith Larsen), a hot-headed Cjibway,<br />

precipitates an attack by the Illinois. Hiawatha and Minnehaha<br />

marry, and another scout is sent to the Dacotah country<br />

to check on Hiawatha's statement that the Dacotahs are<br />

peaceful. When this scout is slain, Hiawatha sets out to<br />

kill the Dacotah chief, who he learns is his father, but<br />

realizes he cannot do so. Hiawatha proves Pou Puk Keewis<br />

killed the scout, and lasting peace is achieved.<br />

V/albrook to be the nephew of the murdered woman who is<br />

iill searching the house for her hidden jewels, the husband<br />

lots to make Diana feel she is losing her mind. When gas<br />

Is flicker on and off and various objects disappear, Diana<br />

THE STORY:<br />

"Father's Dilenuna" (Arlan)<br />

In Rome, the excitable Aldo Fabrizi, awakens on Easter<br />

after dreatning about the beautiful woman who lives across<br />

the court. Learning that his little daughter's first communion<br />

dress has not been delivered, Fabrizi races to the<br />

dressmaker's in his new car and waits impatiently while the<br />

dress is finished. On the way back, his car stalls, so he<br />

takes a crowded bus and loses the dress package while<br />

he fighis with a fellow passenger. Without the dress and<br />

while his daughter sobs, Fabrizi has an altercation with<br />

his wife. Gaby Morlay. She revolts and slaps his face. The<br />

contrite Fabrizi finally admits he is selfish just as a taxi<br />

arrives with the man who found the dress. With five minutes<br />

to go, the family rushes to the church and the daughter<br />

receives her first communion.<br />

THE STORY: "Gambler and the Lady" (LP)<br />

Dane Clark, an American, becomes London's gambling<br />

king, but his real ambition is to be accepted socially. He<br />

breaks off an affair with Kathleen Byron, dancer at the<br />

nightclub which he owns, and falls for Naomi Chance, a<br />

social leader who is fascinated by his gambling, racing<br />

and boxing interests and abides his "vulgar" manners.<br />

Clark is persuaded by Naomi's brother and socialite friends<br />

to put all his money in a stock promotion deal, which turns<br />

out to be a swindle. Sadder but wiser as the result of this<br />

experience, Clark goes gunning when big-shot racketeers<br />

move in on his setup and bump off his closest friend. However,<br />

Kathleen—furious at being jilted—runs him down with<br />

her car, and Clark dies as Naomi reaches his side.<br />

THE STORY:<br />

"Julius Caesar" (Brandon)<br />

The story follows the form of Shakespeare's play, which<br />

has Brutus, Cassius and other noblemen of Rome conspiring<br />

against Caesar and plotting his death. Although warned<br />

by a soothsayer to "Beware the Ides of March," Caesar<br />

ignores further protests from his wife, Calpurnia, and goes<br />

t9 the senate, where he is attacked and murdered. Marc<br />

Antony, speaking at Caesar's burial, arouses the citizens of<br />

Rome who avenge their ruler's death.<br />
