Co.; Jack Zide, manager. Allied Film Exchange;<br />

William Clark, manager, Clark Theatre<br />

Service; Daniel J. Lewis, booker. Cooperative<br />

Theatres of Michigan; Saul Korman,<br />

circuit owner; Ben Rosen, manager. Confection<br />

Cabinet Corp.: Ernest T. Conlon, executive<br />

secretary, Allied Theatres of Michigan,<br />

and Ivan Clavet, manager. National Screen<br />

Service.<br />

Adolph Goldberg, retiring chief barker and<br />

a partner in Community Theatres, was<br />

elected national canvasman. Election of officers<br />

will be held later by the new board.<br />

clubrooms, much enthusiastic discussion of<br />

a reactivated program of Variety doings took<br />

place and plans were made for several major<br />

projects. Among these projects will be the<br />

construction of the Hollywood House, recently<br />

given national pubUcity; setting up a special<br />

women's committee in connection with<br />

Variety work and the general remodeling<br />

and decorating of the clubrooms.<br />

Variety added 17 new members to its roster<br />

as result of an intensive membership campaign<br />

spearheaded by membership committee<br />

chairman Irwin Shenker. Most of the new<br />

members are film salesmen, admitted under<br />

the new, special $15 annual dues policy. The<br />

new bookers: Joe Krenitz and Tom Alley, Republic;<br />

Dorsey Brown, Tom Farrell and Bill<br />

McGowan, MGM; Jim Levitt, U-I; Frank<br />

Belles and Arthur Goldsmith, RKO; Carl<br />

Scheuch and Sol Gordon, Monogram; Bill<br />

Gross and Leonard Steffens, Columbia; Jack<br />

Share, United Artists; Bennett Goldstein, ex-<br />

Schine booker; George Kendis, NSS office<br />

manager; Max Mink, RKO Palace manager,<br />

and his assistant manager, Harvey Mendelson.<br />

To help the Variety Club defray the expenses<br />

of its sponsored charity, the Cleveland<br />

Cerebral Palsy Foundation school, Bernard<br />

Rubin, head of Imperial Pictures and distributor<br />

for Modern Talking Pictures, wUl turn<br />

over to the club all income derived from the<br />

showing of a free single reel industrial film<br />

titled "24 Hours of Progress." This is an<br />

educational reel produced by the national oil<br />

companies and contains no commercial. It is<br />

free to all exhibitors in the territory. Rubin<br />

has eight prints of the subject so that mailed<br />

or phoned requests can be serviced.<br />

Theatre Party Is Given<br />

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. — An unusual<br />

social get-together was held last week by<br />

Variety Tent 27 at the Wealthy Theatre here.<br />

featuring a screening of Paramount's "Cleopatra."<br />

This was followed by a buffet supper,<br />

community singing and a general chinfest.<br />

Among those attending were Mr. and Mrs.<br />

John D. Loeks, Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Goodrich,<br />

Mr. and Mrs. Ted Rosendall, Chiel<br />

Barker Allen Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Clive R.<br />

Waxman, Mr. and Mrs. Leo J. Robinson, Mr.<br />

and Mrs. Ray "Bud" Engel, Walter Fisher and<br />

Mr. and Mrs. Rodger Luken.<br />

Cornell Has Israel Films<br />

NEW YORK—Cornell Film Co. has signed<br />

a contract with United Films of Tel Aviv for<br />

the distribution rights to a featurette, "The<br />

Life and Times of Chaim Weizmann" about<br />

the late president of Israel. The picture is<br />

scheduled for theatrical, non-theatrical and<br />

television showing, according to J. Milton<br />

Salzburg, Cornell president.<br />
