He Suggests Three
Types oi Theatres
MIAMI—Henry J. Koster, motion pict'
director, suggests three types of theatre;
might be an answer to some of the currenfilmmaking
problems, according to a colum-;^ i
nist in a local newspaper.
One would show pictures made for adult
only. The second, offering a different typijj;
of film, would admit juveniles only wheilfj
accompanied by adults. The third wouU
open its doors to everybody.
"I have no desire to make obnoxious, lewd
or repulsive films," said Koster. "But if
}
could tell audiences they would see somethlni'
intelligent, mature and adult—by telling theiri
'This is not for children'—I'm sure they'd gijj"
into the theatre. 1,
"The stage can say anything it wants anin
deal with any subject. People who are growij'
up, hungry for smart entertainment, will ge/
it in the legitimate theatres.
"Practically any story written by a matur,
writer is difficult to put on the screen. Yo
have to make changes in it which usually tak'
the juice out of it. You couldn't put th
Maupassant short stories on film. A lot c.
Shakespeare would be thrown out.
j
"I, as an adult, don't want to be entertainel
by the same stuff my children see. I'd rathe
see adult entertainment than some childis
cops-and-robbers picture. I want to se^
something I can think about."
