DEFERRED TAX ASSETS AND LIABILITIES The Group recognizes deferred tax assets and liabilities based upon temporary differences arising between its financial statements as reported for IFRS purposes and its statutory tax financial statements. These differences usually result in the recognition of revenue and expenses in different reporting periods for IFRS and tax purposes and they are given below. For calculation of deferred tax asset and liabilities, the rate of 20% for subsidiaries and joint ventures in Turkey (31 December 2007: 20%), the rate of 15% for subsidiaries and joint ventures in Georgia (31.12.2007: 20%) and the rate of 30% for subsidiaries in Tunisia (31 December 2007: 30%) is used. In Turkey, companies cannot declare a consolidated tax return, therefore subsidiaries that have deferred tax assets position were not netted off against subsidiaries that have deferred tax liabilities position and disclosed separately.
