Key projects for 2008/09<br />

The following specific service improvements and projects have been agreed between the ARC and<br />

<strong>ARTA</strong> through the Long Term Council Community Plan progress. Progress towards the milestones<br />

set out below will be reported to the ARC in each Quarterly <strong>Report</strong>.<br />

The Government announced in March <strong>2009</strong> its intention to rescind the<br />

regional fuel tax, and its decision that ownership of any future electric<br />

rolling stock should rest with KiwiRail.<br />

Progressed to schedule<br />

Significant progress has been made on the construction of the new<br />

Newmarket Station over the past year, and the station is due to be opened<br />

in January 2010. Currently, the structure of the station and the link bridge to<br />

Remuera Road have both been completed.<br />

Detailed design has been completed and costs are being finalised, including<br />

cost allocation between <strong>ARTA</strong>, Waitakere City Council and ONTRACK.<br />

The detailed design for the new station, now named Grafton Station, has<br />

been completed and the building consent has been submitted.<br />

Detailed design is due to be completed by August <strong>2009</strong>, and the expectation<br />

is that the station upgrade will be complete in the second quarter of 2010<br />

subject to funding approvals.<br />

A trial service from and to Helensville was implemented.<br />

This level of service was achieved from 13 July 2008.<br />

Progressed to schedule<br />

<strong>ARTA</strong> has completed planning for the Onehunga Station (ITM site) and is<br />

currently preparing a building consent application for the station.<br />

Progressed to schedule<br />

The location of the Manukau Station has been agreed, and concept design<br />

is progressing. <strong>ARTA</strong> is working with Manukau City Council and KiwiRail to<br />

develop a detailed programme of works subject to NZTA funding.<br />

<strong>ARTA</strong> is working with <strong>Auckland</strong> City Council and KiwiRail to develop<br />

preliminary concepts for a new station.<br />

Removed from programme<br />

<strong>ARTA</strong>’s commitment to construct a Drury station has been reviewed in the<br />

light of KiwiRail’s decision that the southernmost station on the electrified<br />

network will be Papakura.<br />

Partly achieved, programme adjusted<br />

<strong>ARTA</strong> is continuing to work with KiwiRail and the relevant local councils to<br />

finalise the location and scope of works for these stations. Morningside rail<br />

station upgrade was completed during 2008/09.<br />
