The total energy consumption of the industrial sector reached 1,143 Petajoules at 2003 14 . The
industrial processes originated 6.2% of the GHG total emissions at 1996. 15

Important, but not dominant, export industries are the “Maquiladora” Industries (assembly plants
that manufacture finished goods for export) at the year 2003 they have:
o Personnel: 1,069,172
o Production: 837,831 million current pesos (13.4% of national total)
In relation to the intensity of measures to use electricity and fuels, an index was developed 16 to
quantify the importance that the enterprises lend to energy care (activities to save energy and to use
it efficiently, the index 3 being the highest attention given to energy):

In general, the enterprises lend a medium attention to the use of electricity and fuels. With adequate
awareness and opportunities promotion, the space for CDM projects to ameliorate the energy care is
large.
