IDIS 203 – Health-Care Management and Public Health Policy (E)<br />

This course provides an introduction to health-care management and public health<br />

policies in the health-care field including areas <strong>of</strong> managed care, quality care issues, cost<br />

considerations, and management and leadership practices. Students are introduced to<br />

the management languages <strong>of</strong> accounting, economics, finance, human resources,<br />

information technology, law, marketing and management. Graded S/U.<br />

This course provides an introduction to the science <strong>of</strong> judgment and decision making<br />

incorporating current research in cognitive neuroscience and psychology, evolutionary<br />

biology and behavioral psychology. The course provides an overview <strong>of</strong> the neurological<br />

processes involved in forming judgments and decisions, factors that can enhance or<br />

impede the quality <strong>of</strong> judgments and decisions, and techniques for improving judgment<br />

and decision making. Graded S/U.<br />

This course introduces students to a variety <strong>of</strong> challenges faced by health-care<br />

providers in a managed-care environment. Topics include fundamentals <strong>of</strong> managedcare<br />

allocation and measurement <strong>of</strong> health outcomes. The course has directed studies, case<br />

descriptions. Participants present a book report, complete reading assignments, and<br />
