This clerkship is designed to provide students with an opportunity for independent<br />

study in areas <strong>of</strong> medical education, clinical practice, research, investigational inquiry or<br />

study preparation. Approval <strong>of</strong> the investigational study project by the Associate Vice<br />

President <strong>of</strong> Curriculum Affairs or the Executive Vice President for Academic and Medical<br />

Affairs, and Dean <strong>of</strong> the <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> Osteopathic Medicine is required for registration.<br />

Graded S/U.<br />

Research Clerkships<br />

These elective clerkship experiences are designed to provide the student with a basic<br />

understanding <strong>of</strong> the selected area <strong>of</strong> interest. Students focus on the development and<br />

execution <strong>of</strong> a guided research project or participate with an existing study. Emphasis is<br />

placed on the integration <strong>of</strong> research into medical practice to prepare for more advanced<br />

study in the discipline. These clerkships take place in a wide variety <strong>of</strong> clinical, hospital or<br />

laboratory settings. Specific goals and learning objectives are determined by the<br />

supervising physician and a formalized plan must be submitted to the Office <strong>of</strong><br />

Community Clinical Education in advance for consideration and approval. All elective<br />

research clerkships are awarded five semester credits and graded S/U.<br />
