Health Requirements<br />
Students who project themselves as future health-care workers must protect their<br />
health and the health <strong>of</strong> future patients. All matriculating students at <strong>KCUMB</strong> must be<br />
vaccinated in accordance with <strong>University</strong>’s guidelines. <strong>KCUMB</strong> determines immunization<br />
requirements based upon current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)<br />
guidelines for health-care workers in combination with current requirements for the<br />
Office <strong>of</strong> Community Clinical Education. These guidelines/requirements change and are<br />
updated periodically. Applicants and students are expected to be knowledgeable <strong>of</strong> the<br />
current CDC guidelines for health-care workers found on their Web site, www.cdc.gov.<br />
All students are required to maintain personal health insurance. COM students must<br />
submit pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> personal health insurance to the Office <strong>of</strong> Admissions before<br />
matriculating and to the Office <strong>of</strong> Community Clinical Education before beginning firstyear<br />
early clinical experiences. COB students must submit pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> personal health<br />
insurance to the Office <strong>of</strong> Admissions before matriculating and to the Dean <strong>of</strong> the<br />
<strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> Biosciences.<br />
All students must report any break in coverage or change in health insurance to the<br />
Vice President for Student Affairs during their first two years. COM students must report<br />
any break in coverage or change in health insurance to the Office <strong>of</strong> Community Clinical<br />
Education during the third and fourth years.<br />
Students who fail to meet these guidelines will not be allowed to matriculate.<br />
Transfer Procedures<br />
<strong>KCUMB</strong> has historically accepted few transfer students. Credits may be transferred<br />
only from osteopathic medical schools and colleges accredited by the American<br />
Osteopathic Association’s Commission on Osteopathic <strong>College</strong> Accreditation (AOA’s<br />
COCA). Transfer consideration is given only to those students with extenuating<br />
circumstances who show evidence <strong>of</strong> strong academic achievement from another<br />
osteopathic medical school and evidence <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional growth paralleling the values<br />
and mission <strong>of</strong> <strong>KCUMB</strong>. Students seeking transfer to <strong>KCUMB</strong> must submit a request for<br />
transfer to the Office <strong>of</strong> Admissions, along with the following supporting<br />
documentation:<br />
• An <strong>of</strong>ficial transcript from all previously attended colleges and universities;<br />
• An <strong>of</strong>ficial copy <strong>of</strong> the attended medical school curriculum;<br />
• MCAT scores;<br />
• Two letters <strong>of</strong> reference;<br />
• A statement <strong>of</strong> reason(s) for requesting transfer;<br />
• A work history;<br />
• A letter from the dean <strong>of</strong> the osteopathic medical school currently being<br />
attended, indicating his or her approval for such a transfer.<br />
