Commiltee functions in a manner different from<br />

most college social cummitlees. Here the business<br />

training 01" the Institute is put into practicc. <strong>The</strong><br />

committee under the chairman, James A. AndfTson,<br />

plalllwd the entire scheduk or social activities.<br />

At the brginning or each school year, the student<br />

body through the medium or the Studt'nt Executive<br />

Commit tee votC's a certain amount or money [or the'<br />

usc or the Social Commit tee. It is then the work or<br />

this committee to alloca\(" thesr funds properly<br />

throughout the year ~ () that til(' student body w·ill be<br />

pro\"ided with thr quantity and quality or social<br />

C'I1tertainment that they desire. All this complements<br />

the main purpose of <strong>Babson</strong> I nstitute, namely,<br />

practical business training.<br />

This yrar the Social .\ctivitics Committee opened<br />

its program with a "get acquainted" smoker. Following<br />

this, the committee heJd two informal r('cord<br />

dances at the I nsti tu tc i tscl r. ~ ex t came the fall<br />

[i)rmal at the Hotel Statler in Boston, followed by a<br />

smoker at vvhich Jack Crawford of the Boston<br />

Bruins hockey team spokf'. On March eighth, a<br />

formal dinner dance \·vas heJd at the Hotel Venclome<br />

in Boston. r\ smoker with ,\merican League Baseball<br />

pictures and the Spring formal dance, polishe'd<br />

off the major social events ol'the year.<br />
