Commiltee functions in a manner different from
most college social cummitlees. Here the business
training 01" the Institute is put into practicc. The
committee under the chairman, James A. AndfTson,
plalllwd the entire scheduk or social activities.
At the brginning or each school year, the student
body through the medium or the Studt'nt Executive
Commit tee votC's a certain amount or money [or the'
usc or the Social Commit tee. It is then the work or
this committee to alloca\(" thesr funds properly
throughout the year ~ () that til(' student body w·ill be
pro\"ided with thr quantity and quality or social
C'I1tertainment that they desire. All this complements
the main purpose of Babson I nstitute, namely,
practical business training.
This yrar the Social .\ctivitics Committee opened
its program with a "get acquainted" smoker. Following
this, the committee heJd two informal r('cord
dances at the I nsti tu tc i tscl r. ~ ex t came the fall
[i)rmal at the Hotel Statler in Boston, followed by a
smoker at vvhich Jack Crawford of the Boston
Bruins hockey team spokf'. On March eighth, a
formal dinner dance \·vas heJd at the Hotel Venclome
in Boston. r\ smoker with ,\merican League Baseball
pictures and the Spring formal dance, polishe'd
off the major social events ol'the year.
