Simpson's life has been filled with an unusual variety
of expf'riencf's. 'He has set'n the sights abroad in a trip
made to the British Isles in 1935. Closely following that
trip, he secured a position with the Claim Department
of the Eastern Steamship Lines, Inc. He vvorkC'd diligently
and progressed from the Cashif'r's Department
to the Billing Department. He was also employed in the
Accounting and the Passenger Dt'partments. All in all,
he spent Ilve years with the company. When he d ecided
to enter Babson Institute, he was C'mployrd as Chief
Foreign Line Claim Clerk.
For the past three years, Simpson has been cooperating
with an associate, in an endeavor to perft'ct a pa tented
machine, the purpos(" of which is to grind tool bits.
Ideas materialized in the summer of 1 ~Ho, when a patcnt
was obtained on this machine. At Babson InstitutC', he
studied tht' three major business [It'ids of Production,
Finance, and Distribution. He became chiefly interested
in the [ield of Production. He karned precisely how he
should promote this new machine, from its production
to the final marketing function. His studies in a ,·vide
fif'ld of industrial subjects have' contributed much to his
ability to visualiZf' the future of his product and t()
direct his endeavor toward the formation or an aggre .~siv("
I1f'W business.
THE BUSINESS J'dAN
~('w business and industries today require (,xtremely
aggressive manageme-nt and considerable skill that must
be exercised constantly in the formation 0(' policies.
There must be opportunism and courage in a promoter's
makeup. Simpson should break the industrial icc very
successfully with his business characteristics and training.
