Butterfield attended high school in Fitchburg, Massachusetts,<br />
and after graduating, attended Tabor Academy<br />
in preparatiun for college. He then entered Bowdoin<br />
<strong>College</strong> in Maine intending to major in Economics and<br />
Government. However, he decided that he would rather<br />
attend a business school and receiv(' practical tralI1lI1g<br />
than graduate from a liberal arts schuol. He then entrred<br />
<strong>Babson</strong> Institute in the two-year course.<br />
PRACTICAL TRAINI;\'G<br />
Butterfield has spent two summers in the Fitchburg<br />
Cooperative Bank, working in all drpartments and getting<br />
a general knowlrdgr of coopnativr banking. His<br />
desire to enter the businrss field is natural sincf' the men<br />
on both sides of his family havf' been businf'ss men.<br />
Thr wood pulp manufacturing equipment business<br />
holds high interest for Butterfield and while he was at<br />
<strong>Babson</strong> Institute. he made a ten-year statistical survey of<br />
this field.<br />

Butterfield is a dependable and courteous individual.<br />
His conversation is always intdligent and his great sense'<br />
of humor has made him numerous friends at <strong>Babson</strong><br />
Institute. Presrnting a pleasing appearance and possessed<br />
of an excdlent character, plus his tireless capacity<br />
to work, make Fred Butterfirld the' type of young man<br />
that most business organizations seek. He has devoted<br />
considerable time to the 'v\elfare of the <strong>Babson</strong> Institute<br />
student body by his active participation in student gove'rnment.
