At the entry points to the structure, most of the available technologies should work well.
Video would likely be a good choice if the software is able to distinguish between a
vehicle and a pedestrian. Loop detectors, ultrasonic, and magnetometers are also good
candidates. The same technologies will also work in the surface lots. As noted above,
concerns must be addressed regarding placement and mounting of ultrasonic detectors
and potential environment related issues with video detection. Magnetometers may be
affected by the electrically powered third rail, and should be tested at the facility before
proceeding with an installation.
For the purposes of finalizing requirements and detailed cost estimates, the following
technologies were assumed, as shown in Table 6-2.
