At the entry points to the structure, most <strong>of</strong> the available technologies should work well.<br />
Video would likely be a good choice if the s<strong>of</strong>tware is able to distinguish between a<br />
vehicle and a pedestrian. Loop detectors, ultrasonic, and magnetometers are also good<br />
candid<strong>at</strong>es. The same technologies will also work in the surface lots. As noted above,<br />
concerns must be addressed regarding placement and mounting <strong>of</strong> ultrasonic detectors<br />
and potential environment rel<strong>at</strong>ed issues with video detection. Magnetometers may be<br />
affected by the electrically powered third rail, and should be tested <strong>at</strong> the facility before<br />
proceeding with an install<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />
For the purposes <strong>of</strong> finalizing requirements and detailed cost estim<strong>at</strong>es, the following<br />
technologies were assumed, as shown in Table 6-2.<br />
