Although not dependent on detection systems, the reserv<strong>at</strong>ion system would likely need<br />
to be pilot-tested for <strong>WMATA</strong> to ensure its adaptability to existing facilities. A daily<br />
permit system could be integr<strong>at</strong>ed with an advanced <strong>parking</strong> <strong>inform<strong>at</strong>ion</strong> system,<br />
providing gre<strong>at</strong>er knowledge <strong>of</strong> the current facility st<strong>at</strong>us. A system could also be used<br />
in conjunction with EZ-Pass; the transponder could be both the means <strong>of</strong> payment as<br />
well as the means <strong>of</strong> entering the facility. The benefits include additional revenues and<br />
gre<strong>at</strong>er customer flexibility. However, because new pricing would be required for the<br />
daily permit, board approval would likely be required. Any consider<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> such a<br />
system should be identified early in the design to ensure the capability is built into the<br />
system.<br />
