Choc Beer Co. - #59
Krebs. OK | www.chocbeer.com
In 1903 Pietro Piegari and his family settled in Krebs, OK. When he was 14 he began working in the local coal mines until
a cave-in caused him to open a restaurant to feed the local miners. “Pete” befriended the local Choctaw Indians and
traded his authentic Italian recipes for their beer recipe. Pete continued to brew beer through Prohibition and was arrested
twice for failing to cease production! In 1995 Choc beer became “Legal” and run by Pete’s grandson Joe Prichard.
Miner Mishaps [ 5.0 % ABV ]
Miner Mishaps is our traditional German Schwarzbier, also know
as “Black Pilsner” or simply “Black Lager.” Our traditional version
was formulated by our friend William Scott (or Scotty as he’s known
around the brewery), an award-winning homebrewer and certified beer
judge who has always been very generous about sharing his creations
and his seemingly unlimited knowledge of beer. It seemed only fitting
that since we started out as a homebrewery, we would try and recreate
one of Scotty’s homebrews (which are typically 5 to 10 gallon batched)
here in out 15 barrel (465 gallon) brewhouse. Brewed almost entirely
with malt imported from Weyermann Specialty Malts in Bamberg,
Germany and hopped with imported German Perle and Hallertaur
Mittlefreu hops, Miner Mishap is truly a one-of-a-kind original.
Belgian Amber [ 5.0 % ABV ]
A two-fold experiment: a blend of two separate beers of different
recipes. The first beer is a blonde ale, brewed with domestic 2-row
and a small percentage of Belgian caramel malts and cascade hops.
The second beer is an amber of sorts, brewed almost entirely with
malts imported from Weyermann, Meussdoerffer and Dingemans,
hopped with German Perle. Both beers were fermented with our
house wit beer yeast, and bottled conditioned.
Belgian Dubbel [ 8.0 % ABV ]
The Belgian-Style Dubbel is a beer style crafted by and made famous
by the Trappist Monks of Belgium. Our version is deep ruby red and
malty with just enough phenols and esters from the Belgian yeast to
bring the complex flavors from a beer of this style into balance. This
special brew won the gold medal at the 2009 Great American Beer
Festival in the “abbey-style ale” competition, beating out nearly 60
national competitors.
