St. Croix Brewing Co. - #53
St. Paul, MN | www.stcroixbeer.com
History: St. Croix Brewery was founded in 1860's by Gerhard Knipps in Stillwater MN. The brewery was located in
north end of Stillwater near the Tamarack House. Like many early pioneer breweries of the valley, it served the local
loggers of the area. As Stillwater grew the St. Croix Brewery sold and its operations ceased in the latter part of the 19th
century. The buildings and land were used for various mercantile interests until the early 1950's when it was razed to
make room for the new Highway 95 realignment. In 1995 the St. Croix Brewing Company was once again reborn by
a local homebrewer and was known as the St. Croix Beer Company. Introduced that year was the American Original
St. Croix Maple Ale. In 2003 Tod Fyten purchased the St. Croix Beer Company and renamed it the St. Croix Brewing
Company, LLC. Currently headquartered in St. Paul, plans are to once again build a brewery in the St. Croix River Valley.
St. Croix Cream Ale
Honoring St. Croix's 10th anniversary, St. Croix Cream Ale celebrates
with an American Original beer style made popular by American
breweries in the 1800's. St. Croix Cream Ale is golden ale made with
three barley malts which produce a creamy but light mouth feel. Some
beer authorities contend that the Cream Ale style is a hybrid of ale and
lager. While this is technically not the case, many find that the flavor
profile and drinkability of St. Croix Cream Ale brings to mind a fine
lager while maintaining the complex layers of flavor that beer drinkers
seek in a craft-brewed ale. Truly an American Original.
St. Croix Creamy Brown Ale
Honoring St. Croix’s 15th anniversary, St. Croix Creamy Brown
borrows from the traditions of the British Brown Ales, using generous
amounts of Cluster hops for bittering and a dose of East Kent
Golding hops for flavor and aroma. European specialty malts provide
a complex flavor profile often missing in the Brown Ale category.
Rounding out the brew is a North American twist, Canadian Honey
Malt, to provide a touch of malt sweetness. While rich and flavorful,
this is the kind of beer you can stay with all night. Pour a Creamy
Brown for yourself and another for a friend.
