At f 90 , all flaw signals appear in the quadrant between the signals for a shallow inside surface flaw and those for a shallow outside surface flaw. Flaw signals which appear between those for a shallow inside surface flaw and a through hole indicate a flaw at the inside surface, and flaw signals which appear between those for a shallow outside surface flaw and a through hole indicate a flaw at the outside surface.
