(employing a nine-item rubric) based on the quality and breadth of their<br />
work. The educational goals at VNS are centered around the<br />
empowerment of the school community which includes students, school<br />

The Wisconsin Connections Academy (WCA) is the state's first virtual<br />
grades KG-8 elementary school. At the heart of WCA is a standardsbased,<br />
print-rich curriculum. This comprehensive curriculum affords<br />
WCA students the ability to receive a quality education within an<br />
environment that is most conducive to their learning while parents enjoy<br />
a greater involvement in their childrens educational life. Computer<br />
applications, written for the express use of WCA only, are used to track<br />
attendance and chart student progress to ensure program accountability.<br />
Wisconsin Connections Academy was chartered with the mission to help<br />
all students maximize their potential and meet the highest performance<br />
standards. This is accomplished through a uniquely individualized<br />
learning program that combines the best in virtual education with very<br />

Wildlands Science Research Charter <strong>School</strong> provides students with the<br />
opportunity to learn in a Project-Based research atmosphere. It is a<br />
multigenerational community of learners focusing on locally relevant<br />
topics as vehicles for educational growth and achievement. The<br />
curriculum is constructive in its approach to learning and integrated with<br />
local science research and monitoring projects. They have facilities at<br />
their disposal including a new state-of-the-art science and computer lab, a<br />
mobile lab facility, a lake lab facility, and more than 700 acres of land<br />
associated with Beaver Creek Reserve for field studies. The school is<br />
connected to an existing network of agencies, community groups, and<br />
businesses for support, mentoring, and resources. Along with Project-<br />
Based learning, students have an opportunity to grow academically<br />
through development assessment, personal learning plans, state standards<br />
integration, remediation opportunities, internships, work, and skill-based<br />
learning.<br />
