A number of people have contributed to this book, for which I am truly
grateful. Thanks are due to members of the Department of Airpower
and Technology at the RNoAF Academy for encouraging documentation
and writings on Lieutenant General (r) Wilhelm Mohr, as well
as unfailing willingness to read, comment on and provide advice on the
various parts of this book. Similarly, the funding for this project provided
by the RNoAF Academy is in accordance with the fine academic
tradition of this institution.
Without the assistance and dedication of Lieutenant Colonel Øystein
Erik Nåvik with regards to the various photos of aircraft from WWII,
I fear a lot of mistakes would have been made. Also Nils Mathisrud
with his detailed knowledge on the subject of Norwegian military aircraft
has provided significant help. Per Einar Jansen has through his
work with the Royal Norwegian Air Force Historical Photo Database
made available a number of pictures for this book. I express my sincere
gratitude to Cato Guhnfeldt who provided photographs of Lieutenant
General (r) Wilhelm Mohr, on request from Wilhelm Mohr himself. 47 I
am grateful to the publisher, Tapir Academic Press, for their assistance
and constructive dialogue. My sincere thanks are due to Angela Fiske
for always being there at short notice, guiding me through the English
language when I appear lost.
Foremost, I would like to thank Wilhelm Mohr, who has been kind
enough to answer my letters and phone calls, and for being willing to
let me use his writings, photos and parts of his unpublished memoirs.
Without him, there would not have been any book. Hopefully, a number
of other projects on Wilhelm Mohr will be conducted in the years
to come.
47 The Norwegian book series is called the `Spitfire saga’. The series is planned with five,
possibly six, volumes, to which Lieutenant General (r) Wilhelm Mohr has contributed
substantially, according to Guhnfeldt.
