In June 1942, Costal Command provided 330 (N) Squadron with two Consolidated<br />

Catalina Mk.IIIa amphibians, and by July-August an additional three were added. By the<br />

end of 1942, it was decided that 330 (N) Squadron should move to Oban in Scotland, and<br />

would be equipped with Sunderland flying boats.<br />

FP536 was the last of the 14 Catalina Mk.III that were used by the Royal Air Force,<br />

and is probably the same aircraft that was named «Mjølner» when it arrived at 330<br />

(N) Squadron. The picture is most likely taken at Leuchars in April 1942, before it was<br />

transferred to Iceland.<br />
