You know you’re in for something special the moment you arrive.
The cutting-edge lobby is all glass and marble, with indoor palm
trees stretching up to the tall ceiling. Glass-fronted elevators glide
effortlessly between floors, and big airy lounges offer space to relax.
Step outside, though, and the vibe suddenly switches from
cosmopolitan cool to the Caribbean. An oasis of palms surrounds a
spectacular swimming pool complex that weaves its way around
islands and under little bridges. Taking centre-stage is a thatchedroof
pool bar, almost completely surrounded by water.
The real show-stopper is a 100-metre long beach that merges into
the pool. Man-made, granted, but what a finishing touch. For the
real McCoy, Maspalomas’ famous sand dunes are a15 minute walk
away. Back inside, the bedrooms are bright and welcoming, with
yellow washed walls and drapes contrasting prettily with the warm
wicker furniture. Dining in the immense restaurant is another treat.
Taking pride of place is the show-cooking stand, where chefs sizzle
up steaks to perfection. Although these are big hotels, the complex
has been ingeniously designed within a virtual forest of palms and
tropical gardens to offer more secluded nooks. Explore and you’ll
find a giant chess set, a crazy golf course, and an adventure
playground for the kids.
This hotel is currently called Hotel Maspalomas/Tabaiba Princess.
From Summer 2010 it will be called the Hotel Maspalomas Princess.
