All domes, pinnacles and grand architectural flourishes, there’s
something almost British Raj about this hotel - you half expect
a maharaja to hold court here. In fact, everything about it errs
towards elegance. Take the wood-panelled piano bar.
Reminiscent of a private gentlemen’s club, you can imagine Noel
Coward tinkling the ivories in here. Likewise, the bedrooms are
the epitome of good taste. Think dark wood furnishings and a
neutral palette that’s easy on the eye. They’re spacious, too, and
the junior suites come with integrated lounge areas.
The pool scene’s rather impressive, as well. Stand out features
include sunbeds part-submerged in the water and a pagoda-like
swim-up bar. Not to mention fountains and an extensive sun
terrace dotted with sleek linen parasols.
On the food front, you’re spoilt for choice. All Inclusive buffets
come courtesy of the main restaurant - a Titanic-looking dining
room replete with chandeliers. For a taste of the Far East, make
a reservation at Sayuri. With black latticed chairs, this Japanese
eatery certainly looks the part. Likewise Krystal. With its striking
Picasso-esque wall space, it’s the perfect setting for the latest in
fusion cuisine. Rounding off the à la carte line-up you’ve got a
steakhouse and an Italian trattoria.
As for relaxation and entertainment, treat yourself to a massage
in the Vita Novus Spa, sign up for a game of beach volleyball or
enjoy a beer or two in the American-style sports bar. There’s
even a casino here.
The Riu Palace’s pièce de résistance, however, has to be its
location. Pulled right up against Palm Beach, it gazes out across
the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. And the wide sweep
of soft white sand virtually at its front door means the beach is
yours for the taking.
