y 16 XX Plaza Atlantica The Play House The Location You’ll fi nd the hotel in Guia de Isora on Tenerife’s southwest coast. This tranquil banana plantation area happens to be one of the sunniest spots on the island, making it a year-round cert. What’s more, the hotel is pulled right up by the sea so expect plenty in the way of ocean views. Plus, you can see across to the island of La Gomera, and Mount Teide forms the backdrop. The resort of Los Gigantes is about a 10-minute drive away, while fi ve minutes on foot is Alcala – a traditional Canarian village that’s home to a handful of shops, bars and restaurants. The Hotel and Rooms Designed by world-renowned architect Álvaro Sans, this is one stylish hotel. With its grand Moorish fl ourishes and arched cloisters, it’s reminiscent of the Alhambra Palace. And inside, it looks like it’s been lifted from the pages of a lifestyle magazine. There are silver leaf ceilings, furniture by Fendi and modern art light fi ttings, to name a few of the high-fashion features. The boutique touch comes from scattered daybeds and neon-lit fountains. And in the garden you’ll fi nd a decked fi re-pit with cosy pod seating, it’s perfect sunset viewing territory. Plus the hotel has been divided into sections, with pools tailor-made for families, relaxation and activities. The bedrooms, meanwhile, are dressed in sophisticated neutrals and come with 32” fl at-screen TVs, spa jet-showers and super-king beds. What’s more they all come with a balcony or terrace as standard. And, as they’re all Junior Suites that sleep up to three adults or two adults and two children, there’s a living area with a sofa bed, too. If you’d like to make the most of the setting, book a room with an ocean view, or one with a private garden – complete with a daybed. To really take things up a notch, book a Master Suite. These elegant spaces comprise a seriously chic living room and a separate bedroom with an en suite whirlpool bath. For the ultimate indulgence, book a room in the ‘Red Level’ zone. This boutique, adults-only wing has an exclusive lounge and pool all of its own. Think of it as a hotel within the hotel. All the Junior Suites here come with ocean views, and offer up extras like a pillow and aromatherapy menu and a personal butler. The Pools The main pool has grabbed a front-row seat to the sea. As such the Balinese day-beds, plump-cushioned loungers and hammocks that freckle the terrace come with views of Tenerife’s little sister island, La Gomera. The pool itself is something of a record breaker. Measuring up at 260-metres long it’s the biggest in Europe. Accessorised with 70 in-water sunbeds, whirlpools and jets, it merges into a glossy infi nity pool. There are three other heated pools dotted around the grounds, all of which have their own atmosphere. There’s a quiet area, and an active zone, not to mention a fun pool for kids, complete with pirate ship, water jets and slides. The Dining As well as six bars, a wine cellar and a snack bar, there are six restaurants to choose from in the evenings. Four of these are included as part of your Full Board Plus package… First up is the main dining venue, Pangea, a market-style buffet where food from around the world is served in a white-linen-and-fi ne-china setting. The breakfasts here come highly-recommended and are best eaten out on the terrace. On the à la carte front, there’s the Oasis Pool Grill where chocolate-coloured booths are the stage for Med favourites like paella. Then there’s the Club Ocean Restaurant that serves Spanish, French and Italian fare against a backdrop of white banquettes, glass-topped tables and giant fl ower lights. Last but not least, there’s a brand new Asian-inspired restaurant. For something extra special, there are two restaurants that go all out to impress and are worth paying a little bit extra for. Nami combines the cutting edge with a taste of old-world Japan. Stepping through the stone tunnel you’ll fi nd a sushi bar, teppanyaki tables and an army of terracotta warriors. It’s Calima that really steals the show though. This is where Michelin-starred chef Dani García whips up dry-ice cocktails and Iberian-with-atwist meals. In both restaurants, guests get 10 per cent off the fi nal bill. There’s a smart/casual dress code in each – which means no swimwear or cut-off shorts. The Entertainment When it comes to entertainment, we know one size doesn’t fi t all. Some people want to take in a show come sundown. Others just want a quiet corner where they can enjoy a glass of wine. With that in mind, we’ve selected the very best showmen and singers, and tucked them away around the resort. You’ll fi nd live music at the fi re-pit, West End-style acts, and a mood-lit water show in Plaza Atlantica.
The Experience • Relaxation Minimalist. Zen. Futuristic. Yhi Spa is a state-of-the-art cocoon where Space Age meets New Age. Ancient herbal wisdom is combined with modern science in a setting that’s all recessed lighting, stainless steel and iridescent mosaics. Featuring all the usual suspects – like an indoor pool, sauna and steam room – as well as out-of-the-ordinary touches like a meditation garden and a relax area where Yhi Flavours’ juices and teas are served, it’s the ultimate multi-sensory experience. The treatment cabins, meanwhile, have Oriental décor and come in indoor and outdoor varieties. And with a menu of treatments that ranges from traditional Indian pressure point facials to aroma and gemstone therapy massages, this place really raises the bar on relaxation. * All Spa treatments and facilities are payable locally • Sports & Adventure You won’t be short of things to do while you’re here. Inside the Yhi Spa, you’ll fi nd a health club with all the trimmings – a fully-equipped gym, personal trainer, spinning and dance classes. There are two tennis courts and a couple of ping pong tables. Plus, if you phone the ‘Red Glove’ concierge line, they can book you a round on any one of the island’s fi ve golf courses. • Play The same high standards have been applied to the children’s facilities. There’s the Play House where children aged 4 to 12 can enjoy the Kids’ Kitchen, the Silly Science Lab and the Arts and Crafts Zone. There are supervised parties and movies in the evenings, plus sleepovers for a charge, too. The Play House is free and open six days a week for an hour or two at a time. Even after our staff have gone home for the day, you can still use the Play House with ‘stay and play’ sessions. And come July and August, we split our Play House into two groups – ages 4 to 8, and ages 9 to 15 - so that your children can hangout with kids around the same age during the school holidays. For tiny tots, there’s a multi-sensory nursery open seven days a week. Kitted out with toys and equipment specially selected for little ones between new-born and 4-years-old, it’s run by UK-accredited childcare staff – and parents can even borrow a mobile phone to keep in touch for complete peace of mind. Nursery sessions cost extra and need to be pre-booked as there’s a strict child-to-staff ratio.
