From the outside, this place looks a bit like an Egyptian village.
Its grounds are terraced with simple-looking whitewashed villas
connected with little pathways, rivers and stone-flagged steps.
But inside, it’s a different story. The interiors are palatial,
especially the lobby. Set around a marbled tier, it’s topped by a vast
ceiling dome. A grand staircase sweeps down to the lower level,
serving up flashes of the Red Sea.
Beyond lie the pools. Set in to split-level terraces are four lagoon
affairs, fringed by palms and parasols. Lawns and flower-draped
steps lead to poolside bars and beyond is the hotel’s private beach.
At the end of a jetty is another trump card - the house reef.
Because the Renaissance overlooks the Ras Mohammed National
Park, it’s got fish-filled coral gardens on its doorstep.
As to the accommodation, think elegant rooms fusing
swag-and-tailed drapes with mood lighting and rich wood furniture.
Restaurant-wise, it’s all about choice. The buffet breakfasts are
include chefs who’ll cook your eggs to order. Elsewhere, there’s Il
Palio, where elaborate Tuscan dishes are presented in ultra-chic
surroundings. Or head for Acapulco Joe’s - for Mexican cuisine.
The hotel lies a little away from Naama Bay - eight kilometres to be
exact - and runs a shuttle bus to and fro.
