Study of the ICT sector in Greece: Current Situation and Future Trends Deliverable 14: Prospects of the ICT sector in Greece-policy implications disbelief about the firms’ reliability which discourages their business plans. The simple, stable and predetermined imprinting of balance sheets affects positively the whole economy, as not only the taxpayers know a priori the tax framework, but also the State can plan more effectively its revenues. Such a steady tax environment can also allow lower factors, which will provide a competitive advantage to Greece in the European environment. Removal of barriers in order to attract foreign direct investments in the ICTs sector Greece’s attractiveness to foreign investments is low. The prospects seem unfavourable, to the degree that the institutional reforms and the policies do not constitute a cohesive grid for the increase of the economy’s effectiveness. The fall back of Greece in the ranking constitutes a danger that affects the ICT sector as well, while the countries of Central and Eastern Europe proceed rapidly to reforms that increase their attractiveness. The removal of obstacles responsible for the low competitiveness of Greece in attracting Foreign Direct Investments comprises the structural weaknesses of the product and labour market, the high bureaucratic cost of entrepreneurship, the insufficiency of the educational system regarding its interconnection with the labour market, as well as the poor infrastructures in new technologies. Hence, additional actions are required which will smooth or even eliminate these obstacles, which will also benefit the domestic ICT sector. 6.
