ABSTRACT & CERTIFICATION INSTRUCTIONS
After completing research/experimentation, students are required to write a 250
word(maximum) one page abstract. This should be completed on the Official Abstract and
Certification Form.
� Prepare 10 signed official abstracts forms for the Mainland and Intracoastal Fairs and 15
for the South Fair.
� Abstracts must have:
- A Project Title, which must match the title on the board
- The participant’s first name
- The Project Category /number.
� Abstracts must be typed and should be single- spaced using 12 point type in black.
� Abstracts may not exceed 250 words and must fit in the designated box. (it will be
helpful to type the abstract in a word document and then copy and paste it into the box.)
� Complete and give your abstracts to your research teacher to send to the Fair Director.
� Abstract forms will be reviewed by the Scientific Review Committee and after approved
will bbe stamped/embossed.
The original, unaltered copy of the Official Stamped/Embossed Abstract MUST appear on
the display board in a vertical position in the lower left corner.
The term “ABSTRACT” may not be used as a title or reference for any information on a
display or in materials at the project except as part of displaying the OFFICIAL
ABSTRACT.
Finalists may hand out multiple copies of their official abstracts with official stamp/emboss to
judges at the regional fair.
Note:
The abstract should include:
a. Purpose of the experiment
b. Procedures used
c. Data
d. Conclusion
It may also include any possible research applications. Only minimal reference to previous year’s
work may be included.
The abstract should not include:
a. Acknowledgements (including names of research institutions and/or mentor)
b. Work or procedures completed by mentor.
