Odds (9)<br />

Three types of odds are important in poker. Most players are familiar with the card odds, and most<br />

players base their playing and betting decisions on them. The card odds, however, can be meaningless<br />

unless the investment odds are also considered. Another type of odds is the edge odds, which evaluate<br />

the relative performance of each player. These three types of odds are described below.<br />

1. <strong>Card</strong> Odds (10)<br />

The card odds are the probabilities of being dealt or drawing to various hands. These odds are reviewed<br />

in most books about poker. Table 4 is based on the card odds and shows the statistical frequency with<br />

which different poker hands occur.<br />
