Major types: Type I - insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM), and Type II -
non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM).
Serum glucose ≥ 126 mg/dL after > 8hr fast
OR 2 hr postprandial glucose ≥ 200 mg/dL (World Health Organization
protocol for oral glucose tolerance test using 75g anhydrous glucose
in water)
AND ≥ 24 hours later, serum glucose ≥ 126 mg/dL after >8 hr fast
OR History of Type 1 Diabetes mellitus with random plasma
Serum glucose > 200 mg/dL
AND Polyuria
OR Polydipsia
OR Polyphagia
Diabetes Mellitus Gestational:
No prior pre-gestational diabetes
AND > 2 abnormal values on 3h glucose tolerance test (100gm glucose)
Fasting ≥ 105 mg/dL
1 hr ≥190 mg/dL
2 hr ≥165 mg/dL
3 hr ≥145 mg/dL
OR positive WHO 75g test

Digoxin toxicity:
Digoxin, serum: Therapeutic range 0.8 - 2.0 ng/mL [chemistry report]
Toxic range > 2.5 ng/mL
Disorientation: See encephalopathy
Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC):
Prothrombin time (PT) in seconds > 1.5 x control [hematology report]
OR Partial thromboplastin time (PTT) in seconds > 1.5 x control [hematology
report]
OR International Normalized Ratio (INR) > 1.5 [hematology report]
One of the first three above AND all of the following
AND Platelet count < 75,000/μL [CBC report]
AND Fibrin split products > 1:8 dilution [chemistry report]
OR Fibrin split products ≥ 40 mg/dL [chemistry report]
AND Fibrinogen concentration < 150 mg/dL [chemistry report]
OR Hypofibrinogenemia
AND Increased D-Dimer concentration [chemistry report]
