Sepsis:
Sepsis syndrome
OR Viremia: (blood culture reports growth of virus organism)
OR Fungemia: (blood culture reports growth of fungal organism)
OR Bacteremia: (blood culture reports growth of bacterial organism)
AND Fever: (Temperature > 101°F oral or > 101.5°F rectal)
OR Hypothermia: (Body Temperature < 96°F rectal)
AND Tachypnea: (Respiratory rate > 26/min)
OR Patient intubated
AND Tachycardia: (Heart rate > 110 beats/min)
AND One of the following:
Pa0 2 /F I 0 2 < 280 [Arterial Blood Gas Report]
OR Use of 40% Ventimask
OR Anion gap: > 14
OR Acidosis: (Decreased: Blood pH < 7.325)
OR Anuria: (Urine output < 100 mL/24 hr)
OR < 1mL/kg/24h for children < 16 years old
OR Hypotension: (Systolic blood pressure < 90 mmHg)
OR International normalized ratio (INR) > 1.0
OR PTT > baseline
OR Thrombocytopenia: (Decreased: Platelet count, blood <
10x10 3 /μL)
OR Pregnant
AND Platelet count < 15x10 3 /μL
OR Baseline platelet count drops 50% in 24 hours
OR Coma: (Glasgow coma scale rating < 8)
OR unresponsive to pain
AND unresponsive to verbal stimuli
AND unresponsive to tactile stimuli
OR encephalopathy
